Canada Jetlines is introducing twice-weekly flights between Toronto and Montego Bay, starting November 5.
The new service was announced by the director of sales and business development at Canada Jetlines Sanjay Kopalkar during a JAPEX media breakfast meeting held on September 12 at the Jewel Grande Montego Bay.
The new service is expected to significantly enhance airlift capacity between the two countries, with plans to increase flight frequency depending on the traffic during the upcoming winter season.
"Depending on the progress and getting new aircraft, which are lined up for the first quarter of 2024, we will look at flying at least five times a week into Jamaica," Kopalkar said.
Jetlines notes that it aims to facilitate convenient and budget-friendly travel options for Canadian tourists looking to explore the island of Jamaica.
Jamaica's tourism minister Edmund Bartlett, in welcoming the development said, "With Jetlines coming on board, we are anticipating a surge in stopover visitors from Canada.
This brings us closer to realizing our ambitious goal of attracting five million visitors and generating US$5 billion in earnings within the next five years."
Canada Jetlines, which started its operations a year ago, operates a fleet of Airbus A320-200 planes to North American destinations including Las Vegas, Orlando International, and Cancun in Mexico.
Their main hub is at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
